Dance workshops and swing party with Benjamin Cook - 7th of November! Hi all, We will be running a day of swing workshop and party night on Saturday the 7th of November with guest teacher Benjamin Cook. With classes to suit every level, this is your chance to learn from a truly great dancer. The beginner class (session one) is open to everyone, regardless of previous experience. The intermediate-advanced classes are aimed at dancers with at least 2 years' lindy hop experience, and places must be booked in advance (for more information email v.mcgookin@gmail.com) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Teacher -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben is a die-hard swinger from Australia. Teaching first in his home town Melbourne, Ben now lives and teaches in London as part of Swing Patrol which, after only 9 months, has collectively over 150 regular students attending classes. Known for his technical understanding of both lead and follow - whilst disguising it as good old fun - Ben has just as much fun teaching the classes as his students do learning from him! He also regularly performs for both corporate functions and club nights around London, indulging his passion for performance and choreography. Ben loves any and all questions in class, so don't be shy! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Classes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note about all workshops: Bring a camera to film the class! There's nothing worse than getting home and not being able to remember 'that thing' you did. Session 1 - Beginners / Intermediate - 1920's Charleston (no previous experience necessary) The 1920s was the birth of the dance that we love today. So let's go back to those bopping, flapper-and-gangster times, and learn to really bust out our 20's version of the Charleston. The easiest swing rhythm to pick up, I guarantee you'll be up and running in 1 minute flat, and then onto some cool moves to use out on the social floor. Don't miss this chance to learn a dance that's a little different to the rest, but just as fun (if not more!). N.B. There will be some easy and hard versions of moves taught so that everyone can dance at their own comfort level, and to challenge those with a little more experience. Session 2 - Intermediate / Advanced - Fast 8-Beat Lindy Hop I think that busting out with swingouts to a fast track is one of the best feelings you can get from your lindy hop, so I'm going to show you how to get those feet moving and have everyone swinging to those speedy songs. Expect lots of technique, but loads of fun too! Think about bringing some stickier shoes as well as your normal dancing ones and try the difference. Be sure to bring any and all questions too! Session 3 - Intermediate / Advanced - Student's Choice! That's right - you get to learn what YOU want! Don't worry, I'm not just going to put you on the spot; you'll have 3 very different subjects to choose from that I'll even show you on the day… -Slow solo routine to "I Won't Dance" (Frank Sinatra). Really musical, great for your partnered dancing and a lot of fun. You'll get to really style it up, and use your whole body rather than just your feet. -Flashy shoulder pop moves for 8-beat. Buckets of connection, and some of my personal favourite moves guaranteed to be new for all. -Off weight dips and tricks. Learn to dip, lunge, flick and drop in some cool variations on your standard finishing moves. And- put them in the middle of the songs! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Party night -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get your gladrags on for some swinging at the Windsor. We're sure that once you've learned all these new moves you'll be dying to try them out on the dance floor. So we will be running an evening of swing music and dancing. Entry is £5 (included in workshop ticket).
