By the way remember the name; it's JAMES HUISH!" This is what world renowned singer / songwriter Gerard Kenny, who discovered Billy Joel and wrote his classic 'Piano Man' and indeed Tony Bennett's 'New York, New York ...' said of local singer James Huish. James will be launching his debut CD, entitled 'Listen Up' at the Empire Music Hall on Thursday, 5 April, 8pm. This enchanting evening will feature James, who has sung with Neil Finn from Crowded House at Sheffield's Adelphi Theatre and has starred in many West End Musicals along with his talented 8 piece jazz swing band. The band boasts many virtuosos including Nathan Simpson on trumpet, who played in Dominic Kirwan's band and was house band member of the John Daly Show as well as performing in prestigious West End productions such as 42nd Street, Annie Get Your Gun and Anything Goes, percussionist James Anderson, Dan Byrne McCullough, who has studied with top jazz musicians including Rufus Reid, Mike Neilson and Michael Buckley and Louise Ferguson on Trombone who has many European tours under her belt. The swing band also features bass guitarist Daniel McKeown who is a regular in the 'big band' circuit and pianist Scott Flannigan who was also a member of the Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra and has toured with London singer Ian Shaw and renowned American Clarinettist Bob Wilbur. Richie Parton, originally from Glasgow but now living in Banbridge, is on trumpet while saxophonist Lewis Smith who has toured the world as a respected composer, is also Musical Director. Gerard Kenny is travelling from the States over to the Empire concert and is looking forward to the gig and hearing his compositions performed for the first time. He says, "When I first heard James sing he reminded me of a young Bobby Darin as he strutted confidently across the stage engaging the eyes of everyone in the audience. His stage presence was relaxed but alive with a personal joy so endearing, you didn't want to take your eyes off him." He continues, "I can't wait to hear the finished tracks. Knowing how he puts his heart and soul in to every song he sings, I 'm sure the finished product will be wonderful." The James Huish Swing band launch promises to be the most talked about gig of the year. They will perform songs written for James by Gerard Kenny, original songs composed by James along with all the great Jazz swing standards. The evening will include special guest and is sponsored by Corona Extra. Tickets for the gig are available from Ticketmaster priced £11.50, to include a complimentary bottle of Corona Extra.
